About Me

I have a Bachelor of Social Work from Carleton University and a Master of Social Work from the University of Windsor.  With almost 30 years of experience working with diverse populations in a variety of community organizations (sexual assault centres, domestic violence shelters, mental health services, and child welfare), I have amassed a great deal of knowledge and skills on how to support people through challenging experiences. Now in private practice, I am committed to supporting individuals at addressing deep-rooted issues using therapies focused fostering long-term and meaningful change.

I am a gentle, yet straightforward, caring therapist, dedicated to creating a safe place to explore challenging issues.  Starting therapy is scary and can be stressful.  I create safety and pacing that feels right for you, often spending time on psycho-education and sharing of resources, building coping strategies, and identifying treatment goals and plans. I offer creative and sometimes playful ways to discuss difficult content.  I’m also known to use humour as a way of addressing a trauma response, but also to bring a balance to difficult sessions.

I’m skilled in supporting others through times of overwhelming stress, with experience in crisis intervention, short-term counselling, and in-depth therapy.   I use evidence-based approaches integrating many models as they may fit for you focusing on your strengths.  For trauma therapy, we go at your pace for your processing of traumatic content, your ability to sit with the sensations, and support your healing from the things that happened to you.

As a social worker I see myself as an agent of change.  I engage in social change, through different forms of activism, public education, or community development projects to address barriers, and forms of oppression experienced on a systemic level in our community, often impacting the most marginalized groups in our community.

On a personal note, I love to be outside going for hikes or walking with my dogs or looking for birds and pretty flowers.  I enjoy playing lots of sports, but mostly basketball, or pickleball.  I’m known to enjoy playing games, board games and video games.  I connect to my creative side through painting and crafts such as knitting.  I have many plant babies that I love to care for.  I think laughter is a key to living a good life, and ensure its part of my professional and personal life.
